Railway walks re-released

A LIMITED hardback edition of RailwayWalks: Branch Lines Around Bishop Auckland, by Bishop Auckland author John Swain, has been re-released.

COUNCIL VOTE: Greater Willington Town Council elected its third chairman this week. Councillor Graham Sewell was chosen and Councillor Alan Townsend was elected deputy chairman. Past chairmen Jim Smith and Brian Myers were each presented with a former chairman's medal.

RAISING CASH: A table-top sale organised by the mothers and toddlers' group at the Lighthouse Centre, in West Auckland Methodist Church, will take place in the centre, tomorrow, from 10am to 2pm. Entry is free and refreshments will be available. All proceeds will go towards the church funds.

QUIZ AID: The Lighthouse Christian Centre, inWest Auckland, is holding a quiz evening next Thursday, from 7.30pm, as part of Christian Aid week. Participants will be entered into a draw to win a year's supply of chocolate.

COFFEE DATE: A coffee morning is being held by members of the Methodist Church, in Oaklea, Ingleton, on Saturday, from 10am until noon. There will be a bring and buy and cake stall, and a raffle.

MUSEUM MEETING: The Friends of the Bowes Museum are holding their annual meeting in the museum, in Barnard Castle, on May 19, at 7.30pm.

GARDEN HINTS: Howard Leslie will give a talk about perennials at a meeting of Gainford Gardening Club in Gainford Village Hall, on Tuesday, from 7.30pm.

PLANT SALE: Bishop Auckland Chrysanthemum and Dahlia Society is hosting a plant sale at South Church Lane allotments, on Sunday, from 10am to 4pm.

BEER AND BRASS: A quintet from Stanhope Silver Band is providing the music at a Brass and Beer night in the Black Bull pub, Frosterley, tomorrow evening.

PIE SUPPER: St Peter's Church, Byers Green, hosts a quiz and bingo night on Wednesday, in the church hall, from 7pm. Tickets are [pounds]3.
