Dec. 23--Chocolate and wine historically have been a tough match. Putting the two together in the same bottle seems disastrous.

At least, that's what I would have thought before tasting ChocoVine, a blend of Dutch chocolate and French cabernet sauvignon made in Holland by a division of Dekuyper.

With its chocolate flavor and $11 price tag, it would be easy to dismiss it as a poor man's chocolate liqueur, such as Godiva, but ChocoVine is an altogether different product.

It is thinner than a liqueur and tastes like chocolate milk with a kick (14 percent alcohol). It may be sipped on the rocks, added to coffee or used as the basis for a variety of cocktails. It also stays good for up to six months after opening.

I saw ChocoVine in Tulsa-area stores about a month ago, and most sold out rather quickly. Another shipment came in late last week, so check with your favorite stores for availability.

It would make a fun hostess gift for New Year's parties or just an interesting new drink to try at home.Chocolate and wine historically have been a tough match. Putting the two together in the same bottle seems disastrous.
